"Save the Dates": Why You Need an Engagement Session
One of the most common questions I get when couples are looking at my wedding packages is, "Do I really need an engagement session?" My answer is always a resounding yes. In fact, I believe in them so much that I include a complimentary engagement session in every single wedding package I offer.
Why give away a session for free? Because I don't view it as just "another shoot." I view it as a vital part of our preparation for your wedding day. It is the only time we get to work together without the pressure of a timeline, guests, or a white dress involved. It’s our practice run.
Think about it: For most couples, your wedding day is the first time you’ve been professionally photographed together. If the first time I put a camera in your face is moments after you’ve walked down the aisle, you might feel stiff or awkward.
The engagement session changes that. It allows you to learn my posing cues and allows me to learn you. I get to see how you interact, what makes you laugh, and which angles you feel most confident in. By the time the wedding day arrives, you aren't worrying about the camera anymore—you’re just focusing on each other, because you already trust me to handle the rest.
Pro Tip: The Venue Test Run. If you are struggling to pick a location for your engagement photos, I always suggest considering your actual wedding venue! This is a massive advantage. It allows us to scout the best lighting and hidden corners of your venue before the big day. We can find that perfect spot for sunset photos or the best backdrop for family formals, so on your wedding day, we don't waste a single second searching for the light.
